The season started out on a chilly April morning with cloudy skies and a wind expected to pick up sometime around noon. 5 boats set out with teams and solo anglers spreading out over the northern end of the Bay. Tough fishing was the order of the day with resent passing fronts that whipped-up the water over the last few days after some fairly good fishing prior. One angler came in with a limit of 3 fish out of 15 caught while others managed to catch short fish but nothing over 15" with a couple exceptions of a few keepers that measured 15"+ that came to the scales. John took first today with a limit of 3 average fish. His weight went 7.00 lbs. Matt came to the scales with 2 keepers that went 5 lbs 6 oz. Joe Montya was third today with a single bass that weighed 3 lbs 5 oz. and Troy rounded out the day at the scales with a 2 lb 6 oz largemouth that was good enough for fourth. The big news todaywas at around 12:30 the wind hit with a bong and nothing else was caught after that.
Potomac week was slow this year. For the first time in our history, everyone struggled to get on fish. Fishing was reportedly hot 2 weeks ago, however, an extreme set of cold fronts lingered for a week and brought water temps down 7 degrees since the good fishing. Fish were slow and lethargic.. Water temps ranged from 58 to 64 depending on where you were, tide, and time of day. Matt came in first while John and Ken tied for 2nd place with the only fish to come to the scales for this one.
Today was set up to be a great day on the water for the club. We knew we had to get a quick start as a federation SQT was launching from Dundee and we were certain to see them pretty quickly. Most teams ran straight to the canal system and into primo fishing areas while Joe Montoya rolled the dice and ran north. Troy, John, Ken, Matt, and Joe Williams all fished within site of each other and most in this area got on fish. Joe Montoya's gamble did not pay off unfortunately as he got hung up in the fog and got to his area late and found the grass had not returned to his area. Joe was unable to boat any keepers today and that left the canal anglers to duke it out for the top spots at weigh-in. Ken came to the scales with a limit and rang up just over 7 pounds today and that secured him a 4th place finish today. Troy was solo and he made a late charge just before noon to tip the scales with 7 lbs 12 oz on a nice little limit of bass. John and Matt had a limit each by 7:30 in the morning and added a little throughout the morning by culling ounces here and there. Matt secured a 3rd place finish today with 7 lbs 10 oz just behind the 2nd place finish of Mr. Duff, John came to the scales with a little better fish today that went 9 lbs 05 oz on the scale and he took first place today on the Gunpowder.
The Susquehanna flats tournament (#4) was finally launched today and Ken Eng came to the scales with the winning bag of 8 lbs 13 oz with a 3 lb 12 oz kicker. Joe Williams and John Richick rounded out the top 3 with Dave coming in 4th followed by Joe Montoya for 5th. The rest were victims to a tough bite on the upper bay today.
This is the first of back-to-back late season launches at Tydings instead of Anchor. 10-16-22 to be exact. This tournament was a closely contested event that had Dave Enderlein edge out John for first place with a 9 1/2 pound bag on 3 bass. Dave's lunker of 4 lbs 13 oz takes the lead for lunker of the year. John did indeed come in 2nd place with just shy of 9 pounds on 3 fish. 3rd place today went to Joe Montoya followed by Matt, Ken, and Troy. Currently John holds a 7 point lead for Mr bass over Matt, and a 10 point lead over Ken sitting in third, after that we have Joe Montoya, Dave, Troy, and Joe Williams.
The Susky was the sight of this final regular season tournament. I do believe every team left the river. Today's big winner was Joe Montoya with a great bag of 3 bass weighing-in at 11 lb 1 oz with a 4 lb 10 oz kicker. John came in second and has finished either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in every tournament this year for a nice consistent year and an overall lead of 12 points going into the Club Classic. Dave came in 3rd and is making a push towards the top 3. Ken Eng and Joe Williams came in with fish today as well to round out the weigh-in.
The club launched from Anchor today and spread-out across the Northeast River. Everyone brought fish to the scales and the river gave us one hell of a close finish and exciting end to the season. DAVE ENDERLEIN came to the scales with 3 fish that went 4 lbs 14 oz. Dave's big fish had moved from his area. Dave finished the year with 1 win on the year and a 7th place overall. JOE WILLIAMS returned to the club and had a few strong tournaments this year and landed himself in 6th place for the year. Mr Williams nailed some good bass today in the Classic and came in with a 2nd place bag including a big bass over 4 lbs as well. Joe fished with Troy today and both anglers were on the bite with merely ounces that separated 1st and 2nd place. MATT HOUTZ came away with a win this year and another co-angler of the year title for 2022 an 4th place finish after a tie in points with Troy. Matt tipped the scales today with over 6 lbs on 2 bass for 6th today. TROY DUFF came to the scales in the Classic with the winning bag of 10 lb 11 oz and a kicker over 4lbs! Troy also leaped up the leaderboard into the tie for 4th with Matt. Troy saved his best performance for last this year. JOE MONTOYA, the reigning MR BASS, came to the scales with another nice bag of 9 lbs 11 oz with a 4 pounder. Joe will receive a trophy this year for 3rd Place overall and the '22 stringer of the year. KEN ENG had a great cs title. Mr Bass 2022 goes back to John. John weighed in 3 bass for 9 lbs 2 oz with a 3 lb 13oz kicker that led to an 8 point lead in the end that secured the title from a charging Ken Eng and Joe Montoya.
That concludes the 2022 season. Next year may hold some fun surprises for the club including a trip back to Mattawoman and we hope to gain a boater or two (We are pulling for Tyler!!!!) The 3 fish limit has been an on-going success and shows that a tournament series of bringing your best 3 is an exciting way to compete with a reward for your big bass! Looking forward to next year!lassic showing for 3rd place and Ken had a nice start and finish for the year including 1 win. Ken's efforts will solidly lock down 2nd Place for the year. Ken's bag today of 9 lbs 14 oz did enough to maintain his position coming into the classic. JOHN RICHICK came to the scales today with all he needed to secure his 5th Mr Bass

The 2021 season began on the Potomac River this year. 2020 Mr Bass champ Dave Enderlein took 1st place on the Potomac with 10 lbs 14 oz. Matt followed with a strong 2nd place finish. Joe Montoya, John Richick, and Troy Duff rounded out the top 5. Fishing was good on the Potomac this year.
The Susquehanna hosted the 2nd tournament of the year and Joe Montoya dominated this day of fishing. Joe took the lead in the Mr bass points race.

Joe had another strong finish coming in 2nd today followed by John, Matt and Dave making up the top 5.The club found its way to Deep Creek and hard fishing was the way it went in 3 days of heavy wind.
Troy took the Deep Creek Tournament win on a early morning bass.
Joppatowne hosted the early October tournament and some nice stringers came to the scales with a win by Matt, a 2nd place finish by Ken Eng and a 3rd place by John Richick filled out the top 3 on tightened-up the points race with one regular season tournament to go,
The club then fished its last regular season tournament out of Tydings. Joe Williams took 1st place honors with a strong 3 fish limit of 9 lbs 10 oz just edging out Joe Montoya with his 9 lbs 7 oz 2nd place bag on just 2 fish! Ken, Troy, and John rounded out this days tournament and set up the CLASSIC TOURNAMENT coming on Nov 11th, 2021.
Joe Montoya takes a 10 pint lead into the double points CLASSIC. John sits in 2nd place currently just 2 points ahead of Matt in 3rd place. Ken Eng and Dave Enderlein are just a few points behind Matt. So while Joe Montoya holds a commanding lead, no lead is truly safe as we know.
2021 Club Classic Tournament story & results
The club hit the water today at first light and hopes were high that today would be an all day fish-catching bonanza. As it turned out, the tide was down on a weak high tide and the water was falling fast.
The action came early for a few of the anglers with a quick morning bite then nothing except for a fish here and there, and most of them were small fish. Then the tide turned and came in hard and a late flurry of fishing was on deck for those in the right place.
Ultimately, and to no one's surprise, Matt Houtz got into a run of fish that averaged over 4 lbs by coming to the scales with a 3 fish bag of 12 lbs 07 oz to run away with the Classic win fished out of the Blue Blur with Troy. Congrats to Matt for another strong fishing season as a Co-angler! Matt will walk away with 2nd Place for the year and his 2nd Classic win in 3 years. Great job Matt! Troy had a strong classic finish today with a 3rd Place finish coming from 2 bass that went 6 lbs 5 oz.
John Richick came to the scales today with 3 nice bass of his own. With a total of 9 lbs 13 oz, John took 2nd place today in the Classic. John and Matt tied for the year in total points for 2021 and John will receive the 3rd Place trophy this year as Matt's 4.12 biggest edged his 4.04 out in the bigger bass tie breaker. Joe William's fished with John today and Joe caught a beautiful 4 lb 01 oz bass on the 3rd cast of the day and helped Joe secure a 5th place classic finish.
It is with great honor that we congratulate JOE MONTOYA for winning the 2021 MR BASS for Hazzard County Bassmasters! Joe did exactly what he needed to do today to win the title. And it was no easy task with a very unpredictable bite that the club was facing today. Joe weighed-in with 5 lbs 7 oz today with a 3 lb 7 oz kicker. That kicker ensured Joe the win! With four 2nd place finishes in the past, Joe breaks out with a tremendous 2021 season and a well-earned 2021 Mr Bass. Joe's year also includes a 7 lb 03 oz hog which takes Lunker of the year AND is now the #1 biggest bass in club history. Great Job Buddy! Tom casteel fished with Joe today and came in with a single bass that went 2 lbs 6 oz on a tough day.
Dave Enderlein and Ken Eng both came in with 2 fish today but didn't get into the size bass needed today to get to the top of the board. Ken, Dave, and Troy all finished the year within just one point of each other to round out 4th, 5th and 6th place for the year. And we would like to thank our guests Mark from River Ratz and former HCB charter member and 7 time Mr Bass winner Dave Crocken for coming out to fish with the club today.
